- We learned about three classes of rocks today and how they are formed. On Monday, we will study the rock cycle.

- We spent the class discussing the difference between Rocks and Minerals, as well as look at the various properties of minerals (e.g. colour, lustre, hardness).

- We watched a video on Weathering, Erosion and Deposition today. Students were then asked to complete a sorting activity where they were given scenarios that fell into either the Weathering, Erosion or Deposition category. They were allowed to work in pairs and to use their notes.

- We learned about Incremental Changes today. If you were absent, it might be a good idea for you to read Topic 1.3 and complete the guiding notes to ensure you're on track with the rest of the class.

- We started a new unit, Planet Earth, today. We talked about what a model is and how it can be used to represent things (e.g. a drawing, a construction, a prototype). We also started talking about the crust of the Earth.

- We watched a video on Structures today. As mentioned several times now, it is important you spend 15-20 minutes each night to review for your unit test on Tuesday, June 1st. We will spend the science period on Monday review for this test.

- We started learning about Topic 3.1 - Properties of Materials. In our own homes, we were able to identify a lot of different types of materials. This will be continued tomorrow.

Mrs. Tam did a demo today. Students had to predict how many newtons it was take to pull on a simple beam bridge at different locations and angles. They will be given some class tomorrow to work on the analysis and conclusion.

With the little time we had for Science, we looked at comparison of the tallest buildings around the world to give us some perspective. With that, we started a video show us some of the future buildings (in the planning stage or have started construction) of the world.

We spent the class looking at some structures around the world. We discussed how they were built and how that may affect their function. We started off science going through our Classifying Structures page discussing our answers. Students then did some individual read for Topic 1.2 on the Function of Structures. Mrs. Tam will go through some examples of how structures are designed and built based on their functions tomorrow. See Google Classroom for the guiding questions if you were absent.

We officially started Structures and Forces today. We learned about structures, structural strength and stability. We also started discussing the advantages and disadvantages of solid and frame structures. Students were given a handout with guiding questions to take notes with during the lesson. Please see Mrs. Tam if you did not receive one.

We spent a bit more time on math and took a little break playing "Tamily Feud" today. Didn't quite get to science. A Structures and Forces notes page was handed out today. We will begin Topic 1.1 tomorrow. Make sure you bring the page to class tomorrow.
