- We learned how to Interpret Graphs today. We also learned that different types of graphs serve different purposes (e.g. discrete vs. continuous graphs). Please complete the Graph Comprehension sheet for Monday. I need a physical copy handed in on Monday, June 21st. Instructions are in Google Classrom.

- We started Statistics and Probability today. We discussed the difference between a fair survey question and a biased question. We also looked about how surveys are set up and experiments are conducted.

- We spent the first part of the class reviewing Area and Perimeter. We then learned about finding the volume of rectangular prisms.

- For the last two days, Grade 6s have been practicing drawing angles with speed and accuracy. We learned how to obtuse, acute, right, and reflex angles. There are still a number of students from both classes who are yet to bring their own protractor. Please make that your weekend goal. The drawing angles practice page is due for homework.

- We went over the Operations with Decimals quiz today. The final mark you see on PowerSchool is a combination of part one and part two. You will get your written portion back when I see you in person.
- Start reviewing for your Operations with Decimals unit test on Wednesday, May 19th, even if it's just for 15 minutes a day. The next few school days will be as follows:
- Monday - review Dividing Decimals numbers
- Tuesday - review the unit / study block
- Wednesday - unit test
- You will need a geometry set starting next Thursday.

- We reviewed modelling when multiplying decimals with a whole number today. We then went ahead and learned to multiply whole numbers with decimals without modelling. Tomorrow's period will be used to practice these skills.

- We worked on multiplication of decimal numbers today. We took our estimation skills to help us figure out whether a calculation is reasonable. We also used base ten blocks to model a decimal expression. We will continue this work tomorrow.

- Mrs. Tam is holding an extra tutorial session tomorrow from 1:50pm - 2:10pm for anyone who would like a little more assistance with the concepts above. Use the same code as always.

- Today, we worked through some word problems for adding and subtracting decimals. Students started the practice page and will be given more time tomorrow. So Google Classroom for the practice page.

- We learned how to add and subtract decimals today. It is important to line up our decimals to accurately calculate the correct place value. The notes will be posted tomorrow after we go through some problem-solving questions.

- We started our Decimals unit today. After poking around a bit, we soon realized we needed to review our basic knowledge of decimals (e.g. the place value names, how to read a decimal numbers, standard/expanded/word form). No homework tonight!

- We worked on solving two-step equations together during PEDMAS backwards. Students were able to grasp this quickly. A little more practice tomorrow and we'll be ready for our quiz on Wednesday. See Friday's post for topics.

- We reviewed to write an expression for an algebraic phrase. The bulk of our time was spent practicing one-step equations and understanding what it means to preserve equality. Students are slowing showing understanding for why things "cancel out" and "move to the other side of the equal sign".
- Homework:
- Complete the front side of the practice page (One-Step Equations). We will be taking it up as a class tomorrow.

Wednesday, April 7th 2021
- We reviewed Order of Operation (PEDMAS or PEMDAS). Don't forget Division and Multiplication are interchangeable, working from left to right. This also applies between Addition and Subtraction.
- Preserving Equality was the next concept we talked about. Whatever you do to one side of the equation, you do to the other side to keep everything balanced. We will continue this work tomorrow.

We spent most of the block getting to know each other, as well as discussing Mrs. Tam's classroom expectations. We also discussed where they left off in Math before Spring Break. Starting tomorrow, we will review Order of Operations and finish up the Patterns unit by learning about preserving equality when solving equations.
